The high-pitched, sharp whistling of a boiling kettle and the tension at the verge of bursting — the piece under pressure deliberately evokes a sensation of auditory pressure through the concentration and repetition of high frequencies. These sonic characteristics resemble those of the oboe, a woodwind instrument. Especially in the higher registers, the oboe exhibits a sharp and penetrating sound quality — particularly its trumpet-like sounds and the sounds produced exclusively by the reed, which are transformed into more complex and increasingly dense textures.
